Few television producers face the kind of sudden schedule overhauls that Jon Schlossberg encounters on a typical weekend. As executive producer of the ABC News public affairs program This Week, Schlossberg often learns of major developments in the middle of the night and must adjust the lineup before airtime.
As the 2025-2026 season concludes, This Week remains the most-watched Sunday public affairs broadcast for the fifth consecutive cycle, according to Nielsen data. The program averaged 2.726 million viewers, ahead of CBS’ Face the Nation at 2.634 million and NBC’s Meet the Press at 2.588 million. Meet the Press continues to lead among adults 25 to 54, the key demographic for advertisers.
Schlossberg credits the rotating trio of moderators — George Stephanopoulos, Jonathan Karl and Martha Raddatz — with giving the program a unique edge over competitors. Stephanopoulos focuses on investigative stories about money in politics and its influence in Washington. Karl excels at in-depth interviews conducted across the country, including conversations about data centers and their local impact. Raddatz often leads breaking news coverage and brings deep expertise in foreign affairs and national security.
It’s our job on ‘This Week’ to follow the news. That can lead to some very exciting last-minute decisions. We enter the weekend with a plan and wake up early Sunday and see where we are.
Schlossberg joined ABC News in 2018 and spent five years as senior producer of the nightly streaming program Prime with Linsey Davis before taking the helm of This Week. His earlier experience includes producing local news at ABC-owned stations in San Francisco and New Orleans.
With November midterms approaching, Schlossberg says the program will emphasize the final weeks of campaigning while pursuing enterprise reporting and unexpected high-profile bookings. He also aims to expand the show’s audience across television and digital platforms. “We need to keep evolving,” Schlossberg notes, “so the show can meet our viewers where they are, which is all over the place.”
