De acteur ontvangt de eer voor zijn rol in Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine, waarmee hij ook Beste Acteur won in Venetië.

John Malkovich ontvangt de Outstanding Performer of the Year Award voor zijn werk in Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine op het 42e Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Het evenement loopt van 3 tot en met 13 februari.

De film ging in première op Telluride, Toronto en Venetië. Venetië kende Malkovich de prijs voor Beste Acteur toe. De film komt op 6 november in de bioscopen en toont Malkovich en Sam Rockwell als CIA-agenten op een reis van Santiago naar Paaseiland net voor de Chileense staatsgreep van 1973.

Roger Durling, directeur van het festival, benadrukte het bereik van de acteur. “A legendary actor gives this year in ‘Wild Horse Nine’ his best performance to date in which he combines pathos, volatility, vulnerability and tenderness,” zei Durling. “It’s a high wire act that shows us what a commanding artist he is and we are thrilled to be honoring him with our Outstanding Performer of the Year Award.”

Recente rollen en hoogtepunten uit zijn carrière

Malkovich was recent te zien in Sacrifice met Salma Hayek en Anya Taylor-Joy. Hij speelde ook in In the Hand of Dante naast Oscar Isaac en Al Pacino. Andere credits zijn de Apple TV+-serie Bad Monkey en de Amazon Prime-thriller Bishop, die momenteel in productie is.

Eerder in zijn carrière won Malkovich een Emmy Award voor Death of a Salesman. Hij ontving twee Academy Award-nominaties voor Beste Bijrol voor Places in the Heart en In the Line of Fire.
