A trailer has surfaced for the upcoming documentary Death Boom, which examines the multi-billion-dollar death care sector and its readiness for major demographic shifts. The film is set for its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 9 in New York.
Director Jessica Chandler crafted Death Boom to tackle urgent questions about end-of-life decisions. The project focuses on the anticipated surge in deaths among Baby Boomers, with more than one million expected over the next 15 years.
Our funeral systems aren’t ready for the ‘Death Boom.’ As morgues overflow and wallets empty, a broken, billion-dollar industry is exposed. But better options exist. This shocking, eye-opening and surprisingly uplifting documentary dives deep into the business of death, revealing who’s keeping it alive and why. With unprecedented access and bold voices leading a new movement, ‘Death Boom’ reclaims the end of life with humanity, sustainability and just the right dose of dark humor.
Eli Roth, known for directing Borderlands and Thanksgiving, provides the narration and appears in the film. His involvement adds a distinctive voice to the project that blends investigation with a touch of dark humor.
A high-profile production team assembled the documentary. Leonardo DiCaprio serves as a producer alongside Jennifer Davisson, Phillip Watson, Sean McKittrick and Raymond Mansfield. DiCaprio has previously backed projects such as A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough, The Lake, Sleepwalker, Yanuni, Snow Leopard Sisters, Checkpoint Zoo and Path of the Panther.
Jessica Chandler and Eli Roth also act as producers. Edward H. Hamm Jr. serves as executive producer. The film comes from QC Entertainment, The Horror Section and Appian Way.
Death Boom marks Chandler's second feature documentary. Her debut, A Fine State This Is, premiered in 2003 and followed artist Fargo Deborah Whitman through her experiences with dissociative personality disorder.
