Nintendo is er trots op dat het grote aankondigingen geheim houdt tot het perfecte moment, maar recente leaks hebben blijkbaar plannen voor een remake van The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time op de aankomende Switch 2 onthuld.
Leaker NateTheHate first detailed the Ocarina of Time project earlier this year during a broad rundown of upcoming Nintendo titles. The same report correctly predicted Rhythm Heaven Groove and Splatoon Raiders for release this summer, and it also pointed to a new Star Fox game. When Nintendo later confirmed a Star Fox 64 remake for Switch 2 next month, many fans concluded the Zelda remake was effectively confirmed as well.
Speaking on the latest episode of the Kit and Krysta podcast, former Nintendo of America marketing lead Kit Ellis said the premature disclosure has left the company in a difficult position. He noted that Nintendo invests heavily in maintaining secrecy because the surprise element drives much of the excitement around its reveals.
If you're Nintendo, you're obviously pulling your hair out at this, like this is a worst-case scenario. You're the company that banks on surprising people – the surprise being a major factor to why announcements are impactful and work.
Ellis added that the company routinely makes sacrifices to protect that sense of discovery, but the current leaks have removed it for an extended period. The same report also revealed plans for a new 3D Mario title in 2027, extending the reach of the disclosures well beyond the Zelda remake.
While the mere confirmation of an Ocarina of Time remake would normally generate excitement, the real intrigue lies in how Nintendo chooses to approach the project. Observers hope the company still has fresh announcements ready that have not yet surfaced in any leaks.
