Oscarwinnende production designer en vaste medewerker van Denis Villeneuve krijgt erkenning voorafgaand aan oktoberfestival

Patrice Vermette ontvangt de Creative Impact in Production Design Award van Variety op het aankomende SCAD Savannah Film Festival. De Oscarwinnende designer heeft een reputatie opgebouwd met het creëren van meeslepende werelden in grote studiofilms.

Vermette krijgt lof van vaste medewerker Denis Villeneuve

Vermette fungeerde als production designer voor regisseur Denis Villeneuve bij meerdere projecten. Hun samenwerking omvat “Sicario”, “Arrival” en de volledige trilogie van “Dune”-films. Villeneuve prees Vermettes nauwgezette aanpak en diepgaande research in een verklaring.

Patrice preps a lot. He is a workaholic and it’s all about details and massive visual research — whether you dig in the past or project into the future, it requires research. I knew he would add the right sensibility in the architecture, and in the way we approach the light and texture of the film. Patrice put his imprint on every set, every detail, even the way the sand is seen. Some of these sets were so gigantic, there was no stage to hold them, so we had to build them outside. Patrice has an amazing cultural background and we both come from the world of documentaries. He’s a maniac and I love him for that. I had to sell Patrice to the studio because he had never done a movie of this size, and I thank the movie gods that we got him.

Vermette ontving vier Oscarnominaties en won de prijs voor production design voor “Dune: Part One” in 2022. Festivalorganisatoren kozen hem voor de eer vanwege zijn architectonische visie en brede visuele storytelling.

SCAD Savannah Film Festival belicht talent uit de industrie in oktober

De uitreiking vindt plaats tijdens het SCAD Savannah Film Festival, gepland van 24 tot en met 31 oktober 2026. Het achtdaagse evenement behoort tot de grootste door universiteiten georganiseerde filmfestivals ter wereld en trekt jaarlijks meer dan 74.000 bezoekers.

Het festival, georganiseerd door het Savannah College of Art and Design, is een belangrijke halte op het awards-seizoencircuit. Het biedt vertoningen, panels en workshops in historische locaties en professionele studiofaciliteiten in Savannah en Atlanta.

SCAD-studenten in production design trainen in film, televisie, theater en thematisch entertainment. Ze krijgen toegang tot soundstages, LED-volumes, fabricagewerkplaatsen en een backlot van 11 hectare met tientallen praktische sets. Alumni zijn terechtgekomen bij grote studio’s en bedrijven zoals 20th Century Studios, HBO, NBCUniversal en Walt Disney Imagineering.
