Several familiar faces from the original X-Men films are confirmed for the upcoming Avengers movie, including Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Ian McKellen as Magneto. Marvel Studios is not stopping there and has outlined broader plans for mutant characters beyond that single crossover event.
A full X-Men reboot movie is now in active development and will be directed by Jake Schreier, who recently helmed Thunderbolts*. Schreier revealed earlier this year that he has brought on Lee Sung-jin and Joanna Calo to deliver fresh script drafts. Specific plot details remain scarce, yet the project signals a significant push to reestablish the mutant universe on the big screen with a new creative direction.
Closer on the horizon is Marvel’s Wolverine, the AAA action game developed by Insomniac Games, the studio behind the acclaimed Spider-Man titles. The first trailer debuted last year and showcased classic mutants including Mystique and Omega Red. Insomniac has now locked in a September 15 release date, with the title arriving exclusively on PlayStation 5.
PlayStation confirmed a State of Play presentation for June 2 that will feature a longer look at the game. Liam McIntyre has been cast as the voice and motion-capture performer for Wolverine, marking a notable shift from Hugh Jackman’s long-standing portrayal in live-action projects.
With story specifics still tightly guarded, the upcoming State of Play promises to deliver the next wave of concrete information. The game’s September launch positions it as one of the most anticipated Marvel video game releases in recent years, offering players a chance to step into Logan’s world well before the big-screen X-Men revival reaches theaters.
