Nieuw platform met steun van Hollywood-veteranen biedt 2.000 titels voor 4,99 dollar per maand en plant uitbreiding naar Roku, Tubi en Samsung

Een nieuw streamingplatform dat zich uitsluitend richt op documentaires, staat op het punt te lanceren op Amazon Prime. DocuStream gaat op 15 oktober live met meer dan 2.000 titels en een abonnementsprijs van 4,99 dollar per maand.

Oprichters en investeerders brengen tientallen jaren ervaring mee

DocuStream is opgericht door David DiVona, die eerder Proven Entertainment oprichtte. De dienst krijgt steun van verschillende vooraanstaande mediapersoonlijkheden, waaronder Mark Amin, oprichter en voormalig voorzitter en CEO van Trimark Pictures; Jules Haimovitz, voormalig president van Viacom Networks Group en veteran bij Showtime; Marty Pompadur, voormalig voorzitter van News Corp Europe; en Shebnem Askin, langjarig executive bij Sony Pictures Entertainment die Sony Pictures International Productions leidde.

Breed aanbod omvat meerdere genres en bekende onderwerpen

De initiële catalogus van de dienst bevat documentaires over Hollywood, muziek, popcultuur, true crime, biografieën, sport, geschiedenis, zaken, ufo’s en onverklaarde verschijnselen. Onder de titels bevinden zich films over Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton in Big Hair, Bigger Heart, Anthony Bourdain in A Cook’s Tour en Elon Musk.

Missie richt zich op centrale vindbaarheid van non-fictievertellingen

Het bedrijf beschrijft het platform als een eenvoudige bestemming voor documentairekijkers. De missie benadrukt dat DocuStream non-fictievertellingen centraal stelt in plaats van ze als één categorie onder vele te behandelen.

Uitbreidingsplannen richten zich na Prime-debuut op extra platforms

Na de uitrol op Amazon Prime wil DocuStream uitbreiden naar Roku, Tubi en Samsung-apparaten. De dienst zal naast de licentiebibliotheek een aanzienlijke collectie exclusieve programma’s bevatten.
