he’s always been a massive fan of the show and he was supporting a friend.

During the live broadcast, Gillis joked about modern women's gym attire, saying he had not realized female members now dressed in a certain provocative style. He described the outfits as neon and compared the seams to artificial fishing bait, noting how the fabric gathered at the back. The bit drew a mix of laughter and audible groans from the studio audience.

Gillis also uttered an uncensored expletive before immediately acknowledging the slip and apologizing on air. The segment quickly circulated online and prompted sharp responses from several celebrities.

Celebrity Reactions Range from Criticism to Defense

Actor Dan Levy posted a video calling the routine misogynistic and arguing that men who label women in shorts as promiscuous reveal their own bias. Ego Nwodim, a former cast member, shared a workout photo on her Instagram Stories with the caption declaring herself ready for duty in response to the bit. Country singer Maren Morris posted a clip of herself extending her middle finger toward the camera while referencing her own gym shorts.

Radio host Bobby Bones offered a different take on his podcast, saying he found most of the material amusing and respected Gillis for taking risks on live television.

Gillis' Prior SNL Connection

Gillis has hosted the show three times. Kelce made his own hosting debut in March 2023, and both he and Swift appeared in cameos during the Season 49 premiere the following October. Gillis was originally hired as a cast member in 2019 but was let go within days after earlier podcast remarks resurfaced.
