Gerenommeerde schrijver werkt samen met Malta Film Commission aan internationale dramaserie gebaseerd op roman van Peter Portelli, productie mogelijk in 2027

Stephen Poliakoff keert terug naar ambitieuze televisie met “The Order”, een internationale politieke thriller in acht delen die zich afspeelt in de maanden voorafgaand aan en tijdens het Beleg van Malta in 1565.

Het project werd onthuld door Malta Film Commissioner Johann Grech tijdens de Golden Bee Awards op het Mediterrane Film Festival.

Verhaal geworteld in cruciaal historisch conflict

Gebaseerd op de roman van Peter Portelli onderzoekt de serie de botsing van politiek, geloof, ambitie en overleving op een keerpunt waarop het lot van naties op het spel stond. Poliakoff beschreef het verhaal als dat van individuen die onder enorme druk staan en moeilijke beslissingen moeten nemen in een dramatische periode.

Malta als centraal productiecentrum

Little Island Productions en Hopefield produceren de serie in samenwerking met de Malta Film Commission. De opnames vinden plaats op het eiland, dat als belangrijkste productiebasis dient. De ontwikkeling is in volle gang en de camera’s draaien naar verwachting in 2027.

Grech merkte op dat de dramaserie past bij het soort ambitieuze, wereldwijd aansprekende projecten dat Malta aantrekt, en benadrukte de geschiedenis, locaties en productiemogelijkheden van het eiland.

Poliakoffs terugkeer naar grootschalig vertellen

Bekend van eerdere miniserie zoals “Perfect Strangers” en “Shooting the Past” en films als “Close My Eyes” brengt Poliakoff zijn kenmerkende mix van grootschalige gebeurtenissen en intieme personagestudies naar het nieuwe project. De executive producers zijn Helen Flint voor Little Island Productions, Neil Chordia voor Hopefield, en Nick Portelli en Peter Portelli.
