The Magician’s Nephew opent in februari 2027 in de bioscoop met IMAX-voorpremières voor de Netflix-première in april

Netflix heeft al lang gezocht naar een grote fantasy-franchise om zijn originele filmline-up te verankeren. De streamer gaat nu verder met een hoogprofieladaptatie van het werk van C.S. Lewis onder regie van Greta Gerwig.

Bioscooprun markeert grote verschuiving voor Netflix

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew bereikt de bioscopen op 12 februari 2027. Beperkte IMAX-sneak previews beginnen twee dagen eerder op 10 februari. De film arriveert dan op Netflix op 2 april 2027. Dit schema geeft het project een volledig 45-daags bioscoopvenster, het langste dat Netflix ooit aan een van zijn originele films heeft toegekend.

Gerwig Reflects on Lifelong Bond With the Source Material

The director has spoken openly about her early encounter with the book. She first read The Magician’s Nephew as a child and was captivated by its central image of a cosmic lion singing Narnia into existence. That idea of a universe shaped by music stayed with her and later influenced her approach to filmmaking.

I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life. I didn’t know that I would grow up to make films, but a universe built out of music is an idea that always lived in my heart. It is the honor of a lifetime to be asked to imagine it into being. Because of C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia, I believed in magic and hidden worlds and adventure. I believed that anywhere could be enchanted and that anyone could be swept up into an epic. That wonder and awe was available to everyone, even ordinary people like me… It transformed me.
