Evenement met steun van Netflix in Royal Festival Hall laat alumni persoonlijke brieven en loopbaanadvies delen

Het National Youth Theatre heeft de eerste artiesten bekendgemaakt voor de viering van zijn 70-jarig jubileum, een eenmalige voorstelling getiteld Letters to My Younger Future Self. De show vindt plaats op 20 september in de Royal Festival Hall in Londen en wordt gesteund door Netflix.

Bekende alumni en supporters in de line-up

Bevestigd zijn BAFTA-winnaar Adeel Akhtar, India Amarteifio uit Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Fehinti Balogun, Jessica Henwick bekend van Game of Thrones, Rob Rinder, Sarah Solemani, Takunda Muzondiwa en Jack Thorne. Brieven geschreven door Dame Judi Dench en Lashana Lynch worden die avond ook voorgelezen. Meer deelnemers worden later aangekondigd.

Paul Roseby, CEO en artistiek directeur van de organisatie, leidt de productie samen met regisseur Josie Daxter. De dramaturgie is in handen van Krishna Istha en Sophie Ellerby. Will Duke verzorgt het videodesign, Prema Mehta het licht, Nicola Chang het geluid en Matthew Wells de beweging. Jonge deelnemers uit het Netflix en National Youth Theatre Ignite Your Creativity-programma nemen rollen op zich in performance, productie en uitzending.

Alumni blikken terug op hun vroege ervaringen

I came up through National Youth Theatre and it was a really, really important step in me being where I am now. I’m looking forward to being back with my friends from NYT for a special evening.

I love the NYT. I had the time of my life there and watching what they did with ‘Let The Right One In’ recently was just thrilling. I loved acting as a kid, and my dad brought me to London to audition for the courses they ran. He actually brought me three times, because I failed to get in the first two. But once inside it was like being welcomed to the best club.

Happy to be supporting NYT at The Royal Festival Hall in September. An important place for young people to hone their skills from across the country and without socio-economic exemption. Just art.

NYT-president Barbara Broccoli noemde de avond een viering van het helderste jonge talent van Groot-Brittannië naast gevestigde artiesten. Ted Hodgkinson, hoofd literatuur en gesproken woord bij Southbank Centre, benadrukte de focus van het project op jonge stemmen en toekomstige maatschappelijke vraagstukken.

De samenwerking tussen Netflix en het National Youth Theatre begon in 2023 en heeft al meer dan 4.000 gratis kansen gecreëerd voor jongeren die achter de schermen willen werken. Volgens de organisatie begon zestig procent van de grote Britse filmsterren op het toneel. Tot de alumni behoren Daniel Craig, Helen Mirren, Andrea Riseborough, Matt Smith, Regé-Jean Page, Susan Wokoma, James Graham, Miriam Battye, Lennie James, Tom Allen, Joel Dommett, Ed Sheeran en Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Kaartjes voor het evenement zijn nu verkrijgbaar; de opbrengst ondersteunt de liefdadigheidsinstelling tijdens dit jubileumjaar. Het National Youth Theatre bedankte Netflix, Arts Council England en EON Productions voor hun steun.
