Lando Norris verlengt contract bij McLaren tot 2030 na titelwinst in 2025

Britse coureur verbindt zich aan het team tot minstens het einde van het decennium met optie voor extra jaren.

Lando Norris heeft zijn langetermijntoekomst bij McLaren veiliggesteld met een contractverlenging die de wereldkampioen van 2025 tot minstens eind 2030 aan het Britse team bindt, plus een meerjarige optie om nog langer te blijven.

De 26-jarige Lando Norris kwam in 2017 bij McLaren als test- en ontwikkelingscoureur voordat hij in 2019 overstapte naar de races. Sindsdien heeft hij 13 grand-prix-overwinningen, 18 polepositions en 48 podiumplaatsen op zijn naam geschreven in een recordaantal van 163 races voor het team.

Norris viert nieuw contract en kijkt vooruit

Zijn vorige overeenkomst liep tot eind 2027. McLaren handelde snel om de coureur vast te leggen die het team zijn eerste coureurskampioenschap in 17 jaar bezorgde.

Als onderdeel van de aankondiging ontvangt Norris het MCL39-chassis waarmee hij zijn titel veroverde.

Leiding prijst continuïteit en talentontwikkeling

McLaren-ceo Zak Brown benadrukte de aanpak van de club bij het ontwikkelen van talent en de vooruitgang onder leiding van Norris.

Contractperiodes lopen parallel in de Formule 1

Door de nieuwe overeenkomst wordt Norris 31 jaar oud aan het einde ervan en heeft hij twaalf seizoenen bij McLaren doorgebracht, even lang als Lewis Hamiltons periode bij Mercedes.

Zijn contract loopt parallel aan dat van rivaal Max Verstappen bij Red Bull tot eind 2030. Teamgenoot Oscar Piastri blijft tot 2028 onder contract bij McLaren, wat het team een stabiele coureursbezetting voor meerdere seizoenen geeft.
