McLaren-coureur geeft toe dat P4 niet genoeg is nu Red Bull voorop gaat en het team naar de vierde snelste zakt

Lando Norris finishte als vierde in de grand prix van Singapore, maar maakte duidelijk dat hij verre van tevreden is met het resultaat. De McLaren-coureur kwam veertig seconden na winnaar Max Verstappen over de finish en zestien seconden buiten het podium in een race die de recente vormdip van het team benadrukte.

Norris start als vijfde en strijdt om podiumplaats

Vanaf de vijfde startplek op het stratencircuit van Marina Bay bleef Norris dicht bij Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes en Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari in de beginfase. Een pitstop halverwege de race stelde hem in staat Hamilton in te halen, die worstelde met versleten zachte banden.

Norris probeerde Hamilton in te halen bij bocht 1, maar slaagde er niet in de manoeuvre te voltooien. Hij verloor kort een positie aan Antonelli voordat hij later in de race de vierde plaats heroverde.

Norris eist meer van McLaren na P4-resultaat

I can look at it in two ways. One, it's not a bad result for us. I think P4 is as good as we were going to get. I could have done a better job to fight more for the P3, done a better job fighting against Lewis and positioning my car a bit better and not going off and allowing Kimi to come through. Otherwise, a P4 is the best we could achieve today. I'm happy we managed to do that but we want more than what we had today.

Norris merkte op dat Red Bull de afgelopen weken grote vooruitgang heeft geboekt, waardoor McLaren de vierde snelste formatie is. Hij benadrukte dat het team de auto moet blijven ontwikkelen om de kloof te dichten.

Red Bull seem like the team to beat and have clearly improved the car a lot over the last few weeks, and we've just slipped to the back of the top four. We're the fourth fastest team, which means that if we finished P4 today we still did a good job and overachieved let's say in terms of car result. I'm not happy with a P4, I want a podium and we want to fight for wins. We need to keep trying to improve and bringing upgrades to make the car better.

Piastri herstelt naar vijfde ondanks lekke band

Teamgenoot Oscar Piastri redde een vijfde plaats na een ongeplande pitstop om een langzame lekke band te wisselen. Hij passeerde Hamilton op de voorlaatste ronde om de positie veilig te stellen.

It felt pretty reasonable I would say. I think we just didn't quite have enough pace. We couldn't go with Max and Charles, I think Kimi was a little bit quicker than us as well. There wasn't really too much we could do other than where we ended up.
