Leigh Nash deelt emotionele hulde terwijl band rouwt om langjarig lid en GoFundMe familie steunt

Justin Cary, de bassist die drie decennia met Sixpence None the Richer speelde, overleed op 11 juni na een beroerte. Hij was 50.

Het nieuws kwam via een Instagram-bericht van de leadzangeres van de band Leigh Nash, die de plotselinge gezondheidscrisis beschreef en hulde bracht aan haar langjarige bandgenoot.

Nash brengt hartverwarmend eerbetoon aan bandlid

Nash schreef dat Cary donderdagavond een beroerte kreeg en dat zijn vrouw Linda dagelijks updates gaf. Ze noemde Linda lief en diepbedroefd en herinnerde zich Cary’s briljantheid, professionaliteit, humor en scherpzinnigheid.

Our brother of 30 years (and bassist), Justin had a stroke Thursday night. His wonderful wife Linda has kept us updated everyday and night too. She is lovely, delicate and unfathomably heartbroken. We love our brother so so much. Words don’t cover it. I know so many out there love him too. Saw his brilliance, second to NONE professionalism, class, humor (oh my lord the humor) wit, tough as an old boot as they say. Many more adjectives to describe him. Please pray for Justin and Linda.

Band boekte groot succes eind jaren negentig

Sixpence None the Richer werd opgericht in New Braunfels, Texas. De groep verwierf brede bekendheid met hits als “Kiss Me” en “There She Goes.” De band ontving twee Grammy-nominaties, een in 1999 voor rock- of rap-gospelalbum en een in 2000 voor beste optreden door een duo of groep met zang.

Cary werkte tijdens zijn carrière ook met andere acts zoals Counting Crows en Blue Country.

Inzamelingsactie steunt familie na plotseling verlies

Een GoFundMe-campagne die vier dagen voor zijn overlijden werd gestart, heeft 39.975 dollar opgehaald van een streefbedrag van 45.000 dollar om te helpen bij medische en gezinsbehoeften.

Cary reflecteert in eigen woorden op zijn carrière

Op zijn persoonlijke website schreef Cary over de lessen die hij leerde tijdens zijn tijd bij de band.

As a member of Sixpence None the Richer, I have been fortunate to ride a wave of experience that taught me a lot about the music industry. Sometimes easily, and sometimes the hard way! Along the way, a Grammy Nomination and hit singles kick-started my career as a bassist. I’m proud of the work I’ve done with Sixpence and continue to work with the band on new recordings and occasional performances.
