James Norton neemt de titelrol op zich in een nieuwe west end-enscenering van “Hamlet” onder regie van Thomas Ostermeier. De productie gaat in het najaar van 2027 in londen in première.

Wessex Grove en Gavin Kalin Productions presenteren de voorstelling. Een specifieke locatie en speeldatum worden nog bekendgemaakt.

It’s a privilege for anyone to take on the role of Hamlet. It’s also pretty terrifying. But with Thomas Ostermeier at the helm, I know I could not be in better hands. Both this role and this director have intrigued me and challenged me over the years, and so I cannot wait to start this journey with Thomas and see where it takes us.

Ostermeier brengt zijn bejubelde visie voor het eerst in het engels naar londen

Het is de eerste keer dat Ostermeier shakespeare in het engels regisseert. De artistiek directeur van Schaubühne Berlin ensceneerde eerder een hamlet die al achttien jaar internationaal toert.

I am pleased to be revisiting ‘Hamlet’ for the West End with the great stage actor, James Norton. It will be my first time directing Shakespeare in English, and I am excited to explore the original text in order to bring this new production to life. My first ‘Hamlet’ has been touring the world for 18 years so I am honored to have the opportunity to bring it here to London with James, who in my mind is a perfect Prince of Denmark.

Norton combineert toneelterugkeer met grote film- en tv-projecten

Nortons meest recente toneeloptreden was in ivo van hoves bewerking van “A Little Life” in de west end. Op het scherm speelt hij momenteel ormund hightower in het derde seizoen van hbo’s “House of the Dragon”. Binnenkort is hij te zien als brian epstein in sam mendes’ vierdelige beatles-project met paul mescal, harris dickinson, barry keoghan en joseph quinn, en in guy ritchie’s “Wife & Dog” en george jacques’ “Sunny Dancer”.

Producenten brengen sterke staat van dienst mee

Ostermeiers recente werk in londen omvat “The Seagull” in de barbican met cate blanchett en tom burke, en “An Enemy of the People” met matt smith in de west end. Hij leidt Schaubühne Berlin sinds 1999 en ontving in 2011 de gouden leeuw voor lifetime achievement op de biënnale van venetië.

Wessex Grove, winnaar van The Stage Award for Best Producer in 2026, produceerde eerder “A Little Life”, “An Enemy of the People” en “The Seagull”. Gavin Kalin Productions was recent betrokken bij “All My Sons”, “Vanya” en “Cabaret” in de west end.
