Festival presenteert eerste reeks onderscheidingen en premières van 29 oktober tot 5 november

Brad Bird, Andrew Haigh en Aleshea Harris krijgen speciale erkenning op de editie 2026 van het Austin Film Festival. Het jaarlijkse evenement loopt van 29 oktober tot en met 5 november in Texas en viert schrijvers en filmmakers in alle carrièrestadia.

Brad Bird ontvangt Extraordinary Contribution to Filmmaking Award

Het festival reikt Bird de Extraordinary Contribution to Filmmaking Award uit. Bird, bekend van The Incredibles-franchise, Ratatouille, The Iron Giant en Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, ziet ook zijn nieuwste animatiefilm Ray Gunn in wereldpremière gaan. De film heeft Scarlett Johansson en Sam Rockwell in de hoofdrollen.

Andrew Haigh krijgt Writer’s Writer Award

Haigh, die onder meer All of Us Strangers, Weekend, 45 Years en de HBO-serie Looking op zijn naam heeft staan, neemt de Writer’s Writer Award in ontvangst. Zijn nieuwste film, A Long Winter, wordt op het festival vertoond. De cast bestaat uit Fred Hechinger, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Caitríona Balfe, Kit Connor en D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai.

Aleshea Harris gehuldigd met New Voice Award

Toneelschrijfster en filmmaker Aleshea Harris ontvangt de New Voice Award. Haar regiedebuut was Is God Is, gevolgd door What to Send Up When It Goes Down. Ze neemt deel aan een paneldiscussie getiteld On ‘Is God Is’: A Conversation with Aleshea Harris, die de overgang van haar toneelwerk naar het witte doek belicht.

Festival kondigt wereld- en Texas-premières aan

Verder staan wereldpremières van Chopin, Omi, Rated, Sheepwell, The Stalemate en Tigermom Academy op het programma. Texas-premières zijn Behemoth!, Bleeding Hearts en I Play Rocky.
