Online creator Amelia Dimoldenberg is moving from viral YouTube interviews to scripted television with a new young adult drama in development at the BBC. The project draws inspiration from the groundbreaking Channel 4 series Skins and targets a new generation of viewers.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Dimoldenberg outlined her ambitions for the untitled series. She called it her version of Skins, the influential drama that introduced audiences to actors including Nicholas Hoult, Jack O’Connell, and Kaya Scodelario. The creator emphasized that the story would speak directly to contemporary Gen Z experiences.
Development has taken time, yet Dimoldenberg expressed confidence in bringing the idea to life. She compared the effort to her earlier successes and noted her determination to see the project through.

Dimoldenberg rose to prominence through Chicken Shop Date, her popular YouTube series featuring celebrity interviews in casual settings. She has applied the same persistence to other ventures, including a romantic comedy currently in development with Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures.
The BBC drama remains in early stages. Dimoldenberg is writing the series herself, though the broadcaster has not yet officially commissioned it. She shared few plot specifics during the festival appearance.
Dimoldenberg described the BBC opportunity as the fulfillment of a longstanding goal. She has long wanted to produce scripted content for traditional television after building her career in digital media. The new project marks a significant step in that direction.
